Candelabria consideratios, production changes and after campaing words

Hello Everyone,

this post is to make a point on Candelabria, about the things that changes, the production and other things.

Changes compared to the first show on KS

As we did for Sheol, and as many creators do on KS, when it comes to produce a game there are some changes compared to the first presentation of the project. In fact at the bottom of the KS page there is the legal writing:

GENERAL TERMS:
– ARTWORK AND VISUALS: All visuals and components shown here are for presentation purposes only, and can change in the final product.

We managed to keep many of the things, but there were some changes:

  1. The black flames were replaced by Regions numbers tokens. This because during the playtests we noticed that the flames cover a lot the action and the other miniatures, at the point that some players put them flat to not be bothered. So we decided to change them to double sided tokens that are also used to indicate where there are no fights
  2. Temple board was removed. The temple board was removed because it was pratically useless. The cost of the upgrade tiles is the era written on them, and the temples cost is always 2 gold. So there were no more necessity to have a table with different costs.
  3. Solo mode additional territory tokens replaced by 2 new more mechanics. This is more content compared to the one showed on KS! In fact we introduced the bridges and the watchtower mechanics. Also, the missions of the solo mode were increased in quality and number.
  4. Cardboard candles. The factory advised us that they are making some modifications in the graphics of the punchboards due to cut bleed and they changed the flames to full color. We understand that they are not much pretty, but they are functional.

In the end, were added more contents of the ones that were removed. Hope you are happy with that.

Aknowledged issues and production considerations

Each game is a challenge and it’s a job that involves many people. When there are many people, sometimes there are also some mistakes. Also, this time the work with the factory was particoularly hard, in fact the our reference person was fired and we had to send/change things multiple times. Anyway, we are always a transparent company and we want to share with you the problems, also thanks to the feedback you wrote to us.

  1. Missing plastic bases. The factory completely forgot to put the transparent plastic bases in the games. For many people we were able to put them in the shipping packages before the delivery, but for some copies like the russian ones, we were not able. But we are in contact with the russian editor to send them the bases and solve the issue. Anyway, please note that only 3 bases are used to play (instead of 9 as stated) and they are a very cheap and common component. Again, because they are only used by the curse standees that stay brief time in  play, you can also think to consider them as tokens and place them in the regions them go.
  2. Cardboard graphics of standee. They are actually upside-down, that was an error, there not much to say about that, but consider that they are only a decoration, they are covered by cards or tiles during gameplay, and they have no mechanics in the game. Also, you can play without the standees if you like, because they are only a quality of life improvement, but they are not used in the game mechanics.
  3. Gold cubes? Well, we had no problems with our backers, but some of the russian backers said that in their versions there are some damaged cubes. We are talking with the factory about that, but for now it seems an issue of only a few people.
  4. Candle flames and miniatures holes. We try to assure the best quality, and checked the preproduction copies that were fine. Anyway the plastic the factory used for candle flames is a little fragile and some people experienced some issues, like broken flames or too small holes in miniatures. There is no much we can do about it, but if you need candle flames, please write to us or your editor (for Russian backers) and we’ll help to get replacements.
  5. Little errata in 6th player exp. On the rulebook is stated that there are land flames, but in the box there are 12. Actually 12 is the right number, because there are the gorilla miniatures that replace the flames.

Candelabria future, next version?

Feedbacks are very important for us. We just returned from the Norberg Fair and some distributors asked for a retail version of the game. Basically it will no have the miniatures or the cardboard standees for cards and it will be focused on the gameplay components. Everything is still work in progress anyway, but we would like to open Candelabria to a broader audience, also because the gameplay is nice and we have positive reviews from the ones that played the game. Continue to follow our updates to stay updated. Thank you!
